Astoria is a picturesque city that offers an interesting slice of American history. It's full of the pleasures of small-town life, such as beautiful Victorian homes, the 4.1-mile-long Astoria Bridge and the many fishing trips that offer the thrill of landing your own salmon, sturgeon or crab.
Attractions
Explore the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies. Discover Astoria's famous Union Town, Doughboy Monument, beautiful Victorian homes and churches. View the Astoria Column, displaying scenes commemorating important events in the area's history.
Activities
- Tour Fort Clatsop, a replica of the fort depicted in William Clark's journal.
- Visit the Maritime Museum, which houses some of the region's prized artifacts.
- Visit Mount St. Helens and see the crater, lava dome and blast zone of this infamous volcano.
- Go for a bike ride at Fort Stevens. You'll see Battery Russell, dating back to the early 20th century, with its panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean; Cape Disappointment Light House and the Washington State shoreline. While you're there, look for the wreck of the Peter Iredale, an English ship that ran aground in 1906.
